MOMI Reflections

     I was able to visit the Museum of the Moving Image (MOMI) in Astoria, Queens and it was interesting. The tour was explanatory, we were able to see and do many interesting things. The exhibit that I experienced was called “Behind the Screen.”  While walking through the exhibit I saw all different types of cameras that have been used in film making history. I noticed how cameras have changed overtime and how they have improved as different generations comes and goes.

     During this exhibit, I was able to observe the latest technology in filmmaking and the differences from the earlier generations. Cameras from decades ago did not have the same functions as cameras today. For one example, the older cameras were very heavy and they would not record sound, while cameras today are much lighter and are capable of recording sound as well as pictures. In addition, the older cameras held the film on top of the camera whereas the newest cameras are digital. Cameras from the past had few functions; they were able to record images in black and white, while film cameras today have many functions, such as recording in black and white and color, and the capability of zooming into the desired object.

     The technology today for capturing the moving picture is much clearer than the early versions that were used a long time ago. Portable cameras allow filmmakers to travel faster and lighter while the shots that were taken provide higher quality moving images to viewers who are expecting entertainment on the big screen.

Editing Analysis

      Since I am a fan of History Channel’s original series “Vikings” I went on YouTube to find the best scene. I decided to pick Floki taking out Athelstan during religious conflict and fears for Athelstan taking his friend Ragnar away. From Vikings episode “Born Again” season three, Athelstan decides to step down from the Viking philosophy and rejoins Christianity due from a holy spirit. When Athelstan prays Floki came to shore and walks with rage, while Ragnar’s brother Rollo did not notice Floki walking by and noticed a dog running around instead. After Floki strikes Athelstan he breathes while feeling relief, then he picked up some of Athelstan’s blood and places it on his forehead. So I picked that one because the camera techniques and some of what’s been going on during the scene.
​      The scene mostly represents darkness and barbaric noises during rough cold times while actual drama was represented. The images represent a cold night with fire still lit to represent light and warmth. As for the camera shots they move and zoom at outdoor settings, while for the inside settings camera shots were more focused for close up shots and medium shots. The order of the shots seems to work, for both the indoor and outdoor settings each matches the duration then stays at the indoor setting on its third time. I don’t think there is a “right” to cut and it’s seamless because the order seems correct and I thought the scene was supposed to show whatever happens next.

Project #2

Soundwalk

            At Hunter College I have decided to go out for a walk during a long class break so I would spend time to unwind because how stressful it was to take down a lot of notes while understanding the facts. I have spent an hour exploring The Upper East Side; I have been to two parts. One is to walk from Central Park and back to school, and the other is to walk on Lexington Avenue from 57st and back to 68st. Each took about thirty minutes of time.

            On my way to Central Park, I wanted to act like if I’m out of the great outdoors and it seems quiet when I was there. First before I enter the park I walked on 68st from school, and I had to cross Park Ave, Madison Ave, and 5 Ave. I heard some construction and traffic on the way. I have entered Central and saw the statue of Balto then took the longer way out of the park and walked back to school on 68st.

            I last decided to walk down Lexington where it’s busy comparing to Central where there was less traffic than Lex. Also during the walk on Lex not only there were more people, but there was more talking involved on the walks. I noticed that it was getting more crowded as I approach a shopping district such as Bloomingdales. At last, the crowd was dying down as I walk back school. Overall it was an interesting walk because it was a good exercise.

Artist Statement

           While I'm an Art Major and Media Minor, I'm trying to understand more of the digital world and try my best to make the best work for who may see it. At the same time I’m finding opportunities to do things that I have never tried before, therefore I am looking forward to make creative digital art on the computer. This is important for me to keep the opportunity because I want to understand more of the process for my future career and to expect the best of it.

Most of my thoughts as far as my art are mainly about my moods; sometimes it’s about reality as we see it today. I’m into five different things; soccer, traveling, music (rock/metal), having a pet dog (just like having a cellular phone), and reading about future projects. These five things helps a lot overall because my need from these ideas is to promote positiveness all over the world and to introduce common life that we should live in. I was once into cartoons and video games as a kid, now since I was growing up I have paid attention to a lot of things to gain interest. For a long time I used to draw quick pictures about my thoughts, now I watch informational programs on television or YouTube in case there’s nothing on.

My take from the entire statement was to prove my interests and to introduce myself has the type artist that I always wanted to be. I’m proud of Walt Disney and other cartoonists like Chuck Jones for creating great shows while future cartoonists follows by trying to do the same. I believe that making digital production on the computer whether it’s an art thing or something on the television or computer screen, it would be best for everybody to view the modern day contemporary works that should show fun works of art. Therefore, I would like to thank the digital age for opening the opportunity that I needed the most.
